And the Sun Shone

The dull, grey becomes so normal that I don’t notice how much I miss the sun until it peeks out for two or three tantalizing minutes.  Everyone notices.  We stop what we are doing and we say in awe, “The Sun!”  And then it slips back behind the thick cloud cover for several more days.  Today the sun shone.  Oh the glorious sun!  We went for a little walk.  We didn’t get far – mostly just threw ice and snow on the pond ice, broke sticks through the ice on the edges of the pond, and soaked up some sun.

Barely past the first day of winter and it seems some little organisms are already anticipating spring.
