A Hike

We went for a walk to the creek.  It’s been a long time since I’ve gone down there.  (The boys have been a couple of times with Daddy and Uncle Adrian.)

DSC_0010.JPG We spotted all sorts of galls, seeds, fungus, neat sticks, and other interesting things.  The bridge was washed out of the creek after all the high water.  The beavers have built a new and bigger damn.

Excitement over a beaver chewed stick.  We came home with several!

These are my legs covered in “hitchhikers”.  I didn’t wear appropriate hiking pants, but I also didn’t plan on scrambling down banks and through brush to collect enough beaver sticks for everyone!  Oh… or picking rosehips.

Taking a rest with their dog.

Wolf skat.

Pretty fluff.

The sticks and stones collection.

Rosehips that we’ll dry for tea.  We tried to pick them a few weeks ago, but they were so soggy that they squashed in your fingers as we tried to pluck them off.

Above is a tiny mushroom found in a rotting log piece we brought home.  The boys dissected it (below) to find a few of these little mushrooms, some larvae, a centipede, and a mite.

Who needs a weensy urban nature preserve when you can scamper through wild rosehip in your own backyard? It looks like it was a nice warm day. Must have been nice to get out!

So nice to see all your pics and how the kids are growing. What a little chub Noah is. He’s so cute!
